Hemp is thought to be the first

domestically-cultivated plant,

dating back 8,000 to 10,000 years.

For centuries, it has been a source of fiber,

oil seed and nutritional supplement,

used worldwide to produce a variety of

industrial and consumer products.

´The first marijuana law in the U.S. was enacted in 1619, in Jamestown Colony, Virginia, requiring farmers to grow hemp.

´Many of our founders were hemp farmers.  The first two copies of the Declaration of Independence were written on hemp paper.

´By the 1800s, Kentucky produced about half of the industrial hemp in the U.S. with the first hemp crop planted there in 1775.

´Hemp was not treated the same as marijuana by the U.S. government until 1937.

´Henry Ford created a plastic car in 1941 which ran on hemp and other plant-based fuels, and whose fenders were made, in part, of hemp.

´The U.S. Army and the Dept. of Ag. jointly produced a 1942 film, “Hemp for Victory”, encouraging farmers to grow hemp for our war effort.

´Hemp products (CBD) are now legal in the United States.

´Currently there is no large-scale commercial production in the United States, and the U.S. market depends on imports.
